Baking is a great hobby, whether you're a star baker or a novice, it can be a fun thing to do for all the family. From traditional family recipes to exciting new bakes, whipping up bread, pastries and cakes in the kitchen can be a nostalgic and therapeutic activity. Below are our top 10 things that we love about baking!

Scraping out the bowl is easily one of the best things about baking cakes. Raw cake mixture has the unique and slightly eggy taste that reminds us of our childhoods, and some people even think that cake tastes better raw than it does baked!

Cracking the eggs into the mixture is a therapeutic and satisfying part of baking, from the tentative tapping on the side of the bowl to successfully getting no eggshell in the mixture. The sticky gooeyness of the eggs and the tricky but gratifying procedure is one of our favourite bits about baking.

When baking bread, kneading the dough is fun and easy whilst also serving as an ideal form of therapy, with a tasty treat at the end. The floury concoction provides a soothing and satisfying way to smooth out lumps in the dough, and ensures that your finished product is as perfect as it should be!

Flour gives us the perfect excuse for making (a bit) of a mess in the kitchen and adds a fun element to whatever you’re baking. Although it gets everywhere, this gives you an ideal opportunity to have a quick clean up when your food is baking in the oven.

Is there anything better than the smell of baking food? Whether you’re preparing something sweet or savoury, the mouth-watering aroma coming from the oven is enough to make your stomach rumble! And what’s best is that your whole house will smell like a bakery.

If you’re baking cakes or biscuits, it’s fun to let your artistic side show by decorating them. Pretty additions like sprinkles, silver balls, icing and patterned bun cases can jazz up a standard sponge cake and guarantee that you’ll get Star Baker every week!

Baking, in general, is a fun hobby for everyone to enjoy! Rather than simply buying cakes, pies, biscuits and many more, the step-by-step procedure of baking them yourself is an exciting way to spend a day. You can bake by yourself, or make it a friend and family hobby for everyone to enjoy.

As well as being fun, baking is fully customisable, meaning that you can include or omit any ingredients that you don’t like or are unable to eat. Straying away from the recipe slightly makes for exciting end products, with a customised taste chosen by you!

Not only is it a practical way to make food, baking can also bring family and friends together. Making masterpieces with loved ones is a good way to boost teamwork skills, plus you can always rely on your fellow baker to lend a hand if you get stuck baking or too full from eating!

Last but certainly not least, the best bit about baking is definitely sampling your finished product! Whether it’s fresh out of the oven (watch out for burnt tongues) or cooled down and decorated, eating something that you made yourself is a great feeling.
