Mobility Aids Shop - We're Open!
Since we first opened our online mobility aids shop, back in 2010, people keep asking us the same question, "Ability Superstore, when are you going to open a retail store?".
Each time we've had to respond in the same way, "Maybe one day, but for now, we're an online retail business selling one of the widest ranges of mobility aids in the UK."
The original plan was to open a few stores, but the world has changed. The way we shop has changed and the current global pandemic has also changed the way we shop and use the internet.
However, we're pleased to tell you our latest news – your favourite independent mobility aid specialist is now opening a small retail store in part of their new warehouse in the heart of Lancashire.
As one of the largest, independent mobility aid retailers in the country, we're committed to providing the highest level of service to all our customers - whether that’s online or in person.
Carol, one of our Operations team, has been very busy for the last month setting up the retail store. We asked Carol her thoughts and what she's done to make the customer experience one that people will enjoy.
How did you decide what to stock in the retail shop?
"I’ve spent the past couple of months looking at orders and working out what are the main items that our customers buy, from our TikTok famous ‘Plug Tugs’ to a selection of our own range of Classic Canes, it’s all about having peoples’ favourite items readily available – this also includes rollators, shopping trolleys and wheelchairs."
Can customers buy items not on display?
"One of the best things about having the shop, warehouse and offices on the same site, is that if there’s something you can’t see in the shop, we may well have it in the warehouse, and we can easily get the mobility aid there and then. With over 12,000 items on the website, we can’t keep every single one of them in stock, however we can, of course, order it in, if there’s something specific a customer would like to buy. For our larger items like mobility scooters and walking aids that we can't keep in stock here, we can order in."
Can customers try before they buy?
"They certainly can! If it’s in stock, then customers can try a mobility aid or walking aid, like wheelchairs and rollators, before they purchase.
Not all living aids are suited for everyone – we're all different shapes and sizes. Walking aids like a cane that one person might love, might not be the right shape, or weight, for another person. This is especially true for rollators, trolley walkers and wheelchairs. Mobility aids are items that become a daily part of our lives, so it's important that you choose the right one for you.
In this day and age, I think every successful retail business needs to provide the ability for customers to try before they buy. It's part of keeping up to date. Other speciality stores have set great examples, and it's time for us to provide our speciality to the marketplace."
Will there be expert advice in-store?
"Of course! We're a speciality store at the end of the day and we have an informed team with a wealth of knowledge on hand that are happy to provide guidance and advice.
Other companies may not put customer care at the top of the list, but with Ability Superstore's professional care team of Nicola, Liz and Jane, this is at the forefront of everything we do, and we are more than happy to advise on the mobility aids we sell. If we don’t know the answer to a query, we will certainly find out.

Shopping Opening Times & Location
Our opening times are Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, excluding bank holidays.
The retail shop has great access from pretty much all directions, and we're only 3 minutes away from the end of the M65.
